Drew Deener joined the staff at WKRD in 2008 when he and former U of L coach, John L. Smith started "The Early Birds."  In addition to his radio duties, Deener also serves as the TV play-by-play voice of Louisville Cardinals for football and basketball.  Prior to returning to his hometown of Louisville, Deener was the sideline reporter and color commentator for the UK TV Football Network for 5 seasons.   He was runner-up in the voting for the 2007 TV Sportscaster of the year by the Associated Press.  While working in Lexington, Deener was the co-host for "Cross and Deener On Sports" for ESPN Sports Radio 1300-AM for 5 years and hosted "Sportsline 59" on 590 AM for nearly two years.  Deener also worked as a sports anchor for WKYT-TV for 10 years.  It's his second tour of duty in the Louisville media market, having previously served as the co-sports director at WHAS-TV.  Deener is a man of all sports having also served as play-by-play voice for the UK Baseball team for 4 seasons and called hockey for 2 seasons as the analyst for the Kentucky Thoroughblades.
